Fiesta Primavera

Fiesta Primavera Spring Fest Benicia California

The Solano Aids Coalition (SAC), along with logistical support from the City, the Benicia Public Library, the Benicia Unified School District, Benicia Black Lives Matters and the Kyle Hyland Foundation, is proud to announce the creation of a wonderful and inclusive Benicia cultural event called Fiestas Primavera, a Mexican/Latino Indigenous tradition to celebrate and honor the coming of spring.

The festival represents an opportunity for all communities to unite in an energetic celebration of change and renewal, to learn about our history and the history of human migration, and to honor a culture which has contributed significantly to making Benicia what it is today.

As a frequent and long-time organizer of such city-wide events as Dia de los Muertos in Vallejo, SAC is uniquely positioned to create an event that will be successful and positive for all. We aim to offer a program that empowers Benicia youth in particular, and have developed partnerships with trusted community organizations like the Kyle Hyland Foundation and the Benicia School District to ensure we meet that goal. That said, this festival should appeal to everyone. More information in the ABOUT SAC section below.

Theme and Performances

The focus of Fiestas Primavera will revolve around the rich cultural heritage of  Mexico. We will showcase the diversity and beauty of Mexican traditions through  various performances, including:

Aztec Dancers: To start off the event, we will have cultural Aztec dancers showcasing their ancient rituals and vibrant regalia. Their rhythmic movements and dramatic headdresses will captivate the audience.

Ballet Folklorico: The renowned Ballet Folklorico group will take the stage with their energetic and colorful regalia, representing different regions of Mexico.  The audience will be transported through the country’s dance traditions.

Los Diablos Dancers: Adding a touch of mystique and excitement, the Los  Diablos dancers will perform their traditional dances. Adorned in vibrant devil masks and regalia, their energetic and acrobatic movements will leave the crowd in awe.

Latin Group: Will invite all the community to dance and enjoy the festival with their harmonious and beautiful songs.

Vendors and Activities

In addition to the captivating performances, Fiestas Primavera will feature a  range of vendors offering delicious food, handmade crafts, and cultural artifacts.  Attendees will have the opportunity to explore traditional Mexican cuisine, unique souvenirs, and immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere.

Kid Zone

To ensure that Fiestas Primavera is a family-friendly event, we will create a  dedicated Kid Zone where children can have a fantastic time. Here are some of the attractions we can include:

Games: We will set up various traditional Mexican, such as “Break the Pinata” and “Lotería” (Mexican bingo), for kids to enjoy. These games will provide entertainment and allow children to experience Mexican culture in a fun way.

Jumper: A colorful inflatable will be set up in the Kid Zone, providing children with a safe and enjoyable space to bounce, jump, and play.

Clowns: Professional clowns will roam around the Kid Zone, entertaining kids with their funny antics and balloon-twisting skills. Their presence will ensure a  lively and joyful atmosphere for the young audience.

Catrinas: In honor of Mexican traditions, we can organize a face painting booth where children can transform into beautiful Catrinas and Catrinos. This activity will allow them to embrace the Day of the Dead spirit and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Mexico.

Integration with Main Event

The Kid Zone will be strategically located within the overall event space, allowing parents to keep an eye on their children enjoying the performances, food, and vendors. The lively and vibrant atmosphere of the Kid Zone will blend seamlessly with the rest of Fiestas Primavera, ensuring a cohesive and enjoyable experience for all attendees.

With the addition of the Kid Zone, Fiestas Primavera will become a truly inclusive event, catering to the entire family. Children will have a blast playing games, doing creative and cultural art projects, jumping in inflatable jumpers,  interacting with clowns, and embracing Mexican culture through face painting, pinatas, etc.

Miss Primavera Scholarship Contest

To add a touch of elegance to the event, and to have student involvement in the event, we organized the Miss Primavera Scholarship pageant for BUSD high school juniors and sophomores. This will serve as a platform to celebrate the youth’s contribution to new beginnings, culture, beauty, grace, diversity, and community. There will be 4 pageant winners crowned; Queen, King, Duke, and  Duchess of the event.

Contestants will be judged based on an original essay projecting their passion for equity, history, culture, and community.

The crowned Primavera royalty not only receive the symbolic crown but will be offered leadership training and be allowed to act as an ambassador of the event and to participate in community outreach programs throughout the year. They also will receive scholarships in the amounts of $1,000 for the King and Queen each, and $500 for the Duke and Duchess.

Fiestas Primavera promises to be a grand celebration of Hispanic culture and the arrival of spring. With captivating performances by Aztec dancers, Ballet  Folklorico, and Los Diablos dancers, live entertainment along with the presence of various vendors, and the crowning of Miss Primavera and her court, the event will leave a lasting impression on both the community and visitors.

As a Nonprofit leader in our community, you no doubt understand the pressing need for HIV Awareness, prevention and medical support. Solano County has one the most under served HIV/AIDS positive populations in Northern California and very little is done to promote effective prevention and care. Our efforts to educate and assist cannot take effect unless we have the support of everyone in our community. That’s where you come in! Please Donate or become a volunteer.

Please Donate to help out the community
with these special events and other events that
educate people about STDs, HIV, AIDS and other causes
to make this world a better place. Most of our money comes from our pockets, volunteers, and a few members of the community. We do not have big sponsors.
Please donate and be a sponsor.
Thank You.
