What is celebrated during Fiestas Patrias?
Fiestas Patrias are the celebrations that take place throughout Mexico to celebrate its independence from the viceregal authority of Spain (Seven Central and Southern Latin American nations also celebrate Independence in September).

On September 18, 1898, La Independencia, the periodical origin of the Philippine Revolution against Spain was first published. The Spanish lyrics of the Philippine National Anthem titled “Filipinas” written by Jose Palma. Palma a poet and soldier was also first published on this date.

On September 22nd, The Emancipation Proclamation was also written.

What are Mexican Fiestas Patrias?
Fiestas Patrias are the celebrations that take place throughout Mexico to celebrate its independence from the viceregal authority of Spain (Seven Central and Southern Latin American nations also celebrate Independence in September). The Emancipation Proclamation was also written on September 22nd)***.

History
Mexican Independence Day, also referred to as Dieciséis de Septiembre. On September 15, 1810 In the village of Dolores Guanajuato, Father Miguel Hildalgo. Hidalgo called for the end of Spanish rule in Mexico. On October 18, 1825, the Republic of Mexico officially declared September 16 its national Independence Day (Dia de la Independencia).

When do the national Fiestas Patrias begin?
The festivities are held throughout September (patriotic month). The main celebration begins on the night of September 15, politicians and personalities with the people meet in the Zócalo (in Mexico City), where the president rings the bell that Miguel Hidalgo, the Father of the Homeland, rang to later give el Grito (Patriotic Cheer) of Dolores. There are many versions of the Grito and it is normal for presidents to add a special part.

• The National Anthem of the flag begins to be played.
• The president receives the flag of Mexico.
• The president begins the Patriotic Cheer (Grito) of Independence, starting with a Long Live Independence! He gave a Viva for the anonymous heroes, democracy, sovereignty, universal fraternity, love of neighbor, pre-Hispanic cultures, ending with ¡Viva México!
• After the ringing of bells, the National Anthem is sung. The bells ring again, at the same time the escort picks up the flag of Mexico from the hands of the president.
• The fireworks began

Traditions
The streets are adorned with the beautiful colors of the national flag. A re-creation of the Grito de Dolores (Patriotic Cheer) and the intonation of the National Anthem begins what is called the Fiesta del Grito, in which memorable shows reign with fireworks, to celebrate our independence and that the national holidays have officially begun. This commemorates Padre Miguel Hildalgo call for independence- and lasts through the night. This happens in the capital of the country, and each regional municipal and in festivals in the United States. This follows the traditional heritage and meet in its main squares to start the festivities.

Fiestas Patrias participants show their patriotic pride and happiness. They are prepared with flags, hats, food, and traditional music. Along the streets are placed dozens of stalls dedicated to selling traditional dishes of the most vibrant flavors, among which tacos, tamales, pozole, toast and the favorite dish of the majority, chiles en nogada, whose preparation consists of poblano chile stuffed with pork mince and covered with walnut sauce.

This is the most representative food of the national holidays, since it has all the colors of the flag because the chili is green, the white sauce and the seeds are red, the perfect food to commemorate the Independence of Mexico. Viva Mexico!

On September 18, 1898, La Independencia, the periodical origin of the Philippine Revolution against Spain, came out with its first issue. It was edited and founded by General Antonio Luna, Supreme Chief of the Army under Emilio Aguinaldo. Publication of the paper continued even during the Filipino-American War, although General Luna was pulled out of its editorial staff because of his military duties and was replaced by Rafael Palma as acting editor. On this same day in 1899, La Independencia first published the Spanish lyrics of the Philippine National Anthem titled “Filipinas” written by Jose Palma. Palma a poet and soldier, was in the staff of La Independencia at the time he wrote his “Filipinas”. The La Independencia came out with its last issue on November 11, 1900.
